Peter the Great became the Russian czar in the early 18th century and was well known for his drastic reforms to make Russia a strong nation. Peter valued science and technological advancements as a tool to make them a great country. He also gained territory in Estonia, Latvia and Finland and established the city of St. Petersburg.
