English Restoration (jan 1, 1660 – jan 1, 1785)
Description:
The Restoration period began in 1660, the year in which King Charles II was restored to the English throne. The bishops were restored to Parliament which helped establish a strict Anglican orthodoxy, and there was also an expansion in colonial trade. There was an increase in education and literacy, which caused the revival of drama and literature to occur.
