Medieval Period (jan 1, 700 – jan 1, 1485)

Description:

The medieval time period was an era of religious development, social and cultural establishment, and ethnic and political identities. Between 400-550 the development of new communities arose. Germanic settlements were established in eastern Britain who eventually called themselves English. Western and Northern parts of Britain were occupied by the Celtics who were Christian and maintained connection with the Mediterranean world. During this time, the Irish were heavily involved in developing literature, art, and religion. The Irish influence had a major impact on the colonization of western Scotland, and missionary activity in Europe. At the turn of the seventh century the development of cultural and political influence was at an all-time high. The economy and artistry was evolving tremendously as well. This new system created room for continental trade and economic growth throughout. A new form of government arose in the 800’s. With the growth of Kingship there was a union forming through gift-giving, and marriage-alliances. By the 850’s Britain was still divided, but Ireland was slowly developing their kingship.
