Ammon (jun 3, 135 BC – aug 16, 67 BC)

Description:

Son of Mosiah II. His brothers were Aaron, Himni and Omner.

He and his brothers were good friends of Alma the Younger and joined him in persecuting the church.
He was converted by the visitation of the angel. After this conversion he devoted his time to preaching the gospel, attempting to repari the damage that he and his friends had caused.

Later he lead his brothers and two others on a mission to the Lamanites. It was not the first time missionaries had gone to the Lamanites, but it is the first recorded time that they had success.
Ammon separated from his brothers once they were among the Lamanites, and soon became the servant of King Lamoni in the land of Ishmael. His miraculously defense of the King's flocks led to the conversion of King Lamoni and eventually a large portion of the Lamanites in that land.
It was also through his instrumentality that Lamoni's father sought the gospel, though he did not actually teach him.
This mission lasted for 14 years, and resulted in many thousands of converts, who eventually came to be called the people of Ammon.

In later years he joined Alma in the mission to the Zoramites, but after this he drops from the record.
I believe that Ammon was close in age to Alma the Younger, though slightly younger (which is why Alma was the leader of their rebellion).
We also know that he was alive after Alma was translated.
So, based on this I place his birth in 135, the year after Alma, and when Mosiah was 19. I place his death in 67, at the age of 68.
