Father of Lamoni (may 17, 159 BC – dec 12, 82 BC)

Description:

The father of King Lamoni is never named in the record, and because of this his connection to events prior to his story is commonly missed.

Given the space of time it is clear that he was the son of King Laman II, and was a young man during the time of King Limhi.

This means that Lamoni's father was about 16 years old when the daughters of the Lamanites were taken. At this age he was too young to go to war with his father, but old enough for this event to stir great anger in him.
This coupled with the later assaults of the people of Zeniff against the Lamanites, would have settled in his mind his later animosity against the Nephites.

Later in life he becomes King of the Lamanites, and this anger has turned to hatred that is strong enough that he feel the desire to kill all Nephites on sight.
He is, however, impressed with Ammon and later converted by the preaching of Aaron. He opened all the lands of the Lamanites to the preaching of the gospel and thus opened the way for a mass conversion.
He led the faithful Lamanites and together they renamed themselves the Anti-Nephi-Lehites. He died soon afterwords.

His death is recorded, and thus his life can be estimated.
I list his birth in 159, and his death in 82.
