Berlin Blockade (jun 24, 1948 – may 12, 1949)
Description:
The date is the day it started- After France, the UK, and the US unified their divisions of Germany, Stalin responded by blockading West Berlin which had been previously divided among them as well. Due to the policies of the MARSHALL PLAN, the countries then responded with what is known as the BERLIN AIRLIFT to supply the city. This ultimately forced Stalin to remove the blockades in defeat. This airlift is essentially what created NATO (North Atlantic Treaty Organization) and in turn the WARSAW PACT due to the need to maintain the balance of power.
