Gideon (may 23, 175 BC – jun 16, 90 BC)

Description:

Nothing is known of his family. He first appears in the record as a leader of an opposition group that opposed King Noah. He threatened to kill King Noah, but spared him when the Lamanites invaded.
After this he became the primary advisor for King Limhi. It was through him that the truth of the abduction of the Daughters of the Lamanites was brought to light. It was his plan that was adopted for the escape of the people of Zeniff and their flight to Zarahemla.

He was a mighty man, strong and skilled in the arts of a soldier.
He was also a righteous man who was converted sometime after Alma had fled from King Noah. He was later taught the full gospel by Ammon when his expedition found the people of Zeniff, and was later baptized by Alma after reaching the land of Zarahemla.

Later in life he was a well known teacher in the church. When he withstood the doctrine of Nehor with the word of God, Nehor struck him down with the sword.

The record makes a point to explain that the only reason that Nehor was able to kill Gideon was because of Gideon's advanced age. So, based on this I estimate his birth to be sometime before Alma the elder.

I list him being born in 175, and being murdered in 90 (the year from the record. This makes him 85 when he died.
