Sixth Syrian War (jan 2, 170 BC – jan 1, 168 BC)
Description:
The causes of this conflict are obscure. Ptolemaic regents seemed to have instigated the conflict with the Seleucids, but Egypt was quickly overpowered. The Egyptians sought help from Rome, which in turn dispatched consul Gaius Popillius Laenas, who intercepted Antiochus's army at Eleusis, and halted their last advance on Alexandria.
