Moving Away from Slave Trade (jan 21, 1772 – jan 21, 1820)

Description:

Legal and Societal Climate set:
Mansfield's Ruling in 1772 argues that the slave trade is against English law. Shortly afterward in 1764 an abolition group is formed and the Society of Friends (a religious group) disallows membership to any slave owners.

Restrictions start:
In 1798, slave trading is only permitted in three ports and in 1807 participation in the international slave trade.

Proactive Destruction of Slave Trade:
In 1820, England uses its navy to end slave trading abroad.
