The Reign of Terror (sep 5, 1793 – jul 27, 1794)
Description:
The Jacobin government, which came to power after the overthrow of the monarchy, believed political violence to be the most effective way to maintain control over the tumultuous situation in France during the revolution. Led by Robespierre, the sans-culottes executed over 17,000 people, mostly by guillotine, for committing “treasonous acts” against the revolutionary government.
