Napoleon Invades Russia (jun 24, 1812 – dec 14, 1812)

Description:

Napoleon invaded Russia as they refused to adhere to the continental system, trading with Great Britain. Napoleon's army of 350,000 men marched almost unopposed to Moscow. However the as the Russian winter set in the effect of the scorched Earth tactics employed by the Russian army began to show themselves. Starvation and frostbite killed a vast number of Napoleon's men. Eventually Napoleon was forced to return to his expeditions starting point, having lost a great majority of his army. This marks the Napoleon's high water mark and the beginning of the decline of the French Empire.
