Catherine the Great was the longest reigning queen of Russia. She instituted many reforms focusing mainly on the westernization of Russia. On top of military expansion, Catherine the great introduced economic reforms and the first Russian currency was issued under her rule. Catherine is largely responsible for bringing Russia into the the circle of European nations.
