American Revolutionary War (apr 15, 1813 – sep 5, 1813)
Description:
This war consisted of many mini wars and battles, including the Battle of Halifax, the War of 1812, and the Sack of Lunenburg. Historians see this war as a draw with no winner, although both suffered greatly. Privateers played a great role in this, and there were over 4,000 licenses from the British, as they had knowledge of the navy. In the war, 15 commissioned ships failed to capture any prizes, and another 10 only took 1 each. 40 privateers operated out of Liverpool, and the Liverpool Packet delivered mail and captured 33 vessels. The goal of the war as a whole was to disrupt maritime trade and commerce while weakening the British colonies in Atlantic Canada. Privateers aided in encouraging the British to call off the war as it was too expensive. Privateering is abolished in 1856 on an international treaty that the US refused to sign, and it is still legal until a war.
