Sexenio Democrático (jan 1, 1868 – jan 1, 1874)

Description:

- Republicans, progressives and democrats were excluded from the government and teh rejected teh government's conservatism.
- The military and the bourgeoisie rejected the regime's authoritarianism.
- Rural and urban revolts were made due to economic problems

The pronunciamiento of Prim and Serrano marked the beginning of this period.
Serrano became the president of a provisional government and called elections for a Constituent Parliament. This parliament passed the democratic Constitution of 1869.
The democratic Parliament elected Amadeo Saboya as a constitutional monarch in 1871. The assassination of Prim coincided with the election of Amadeo I.
Amadeo I faced many problems. He was rejeted by much of the population, by the monarchists, by the republicans adn by the Church. He abdicated in 1873.
