Liberalism (jan 1, 1833 – jan 1, 1844)

Description:

When Isabel II inherited the throne, María Cristina, her mother, became the regent. The government was forced to be liberal, because Isabel's succession was contested by the Carlists.
Liberals were divided into moderates and progressives.
María Cristina supported the moderates at first, but protests like the Mutitny of La Granja, obliged her to hand over the government to the progressives. Baldomero Espartero became regent. After him, Narváez, a moderate general became the regent. In 1843, at only 13 years of age, Isabel II was proclaimed queen.
