James II Rule (jan 1, 1685 – jan 16, 1688)

Description:

He was a stuart king of England, Scotland and Ireland. He was overthrown in 1688 in the “Glorious revolution” by William II. James II had many conflicts with parliament due to his struggles on trying to get civil rights for Catholics. He appointed military positions to Catholics to try and help his case. In 1687, he issued a Declaration of Indulgence aiming at complete religious toleration and instructed Anglican clergy to read it from their pulpits.
