Overview:
Charles I did not get along any better with parliament than king James I did. Charles I started a war with Spain that was very unpopular, and some stopped paying the king's taxes. People continued to emigrate to America.

Charles I's squabble with parliament:
Charles I calls together the high council for the last time in 1640 for a loan and advice without the parliament. The council recommended a new parliament be formed, and so the high council was never called on again. Charles summoned a new parliament, known as the Long Parliament, within the year, however this parliament called for Charles' execution in 1649. They would last for 20 years and across the War of the Three Kingdoms.
