Age of Johnson (jul 13, 1750 – aug 5, 1798)
Description:
Samuel Johnson was a literary critic and author. He produced an elaborate dictionary of the English language, which would be used for over a hundred years to come and helped develop principles of literary criticism that stand to this day. Chiefly, he discouraged direct imitation and elusive allusions, encouraging poets to produce more original works and to use more flavorful language.
This period is also known as the Age of Sensibility.
