First Carlist War (jan 1, 1833 – jan 1, 1840)
Description:
The Queen María Cristina, Fernando's widow, was the regent of Spain because Isabel II was still a baby. At the same time, Carlos Borbón proclaimed himself the king of Spain. This led to the First Carlist War.
The liberals supported Isabel II and the Carlist supported the Old Regime and were in favour of absolutism.
The Carlists lost the war. It ended with a treaty called Embracce of Vergara.
