Qing Dynasty (nov 1, 1644 – mar 1, 1911)

Description:

Otherwise known as the Manchu Dynasty, the Qing Dynasty.

It started when the Manchu people rose up against the Ming Dynasty, crossing the Great Wall to overtake Beijing.

During Manchu reign, only Manchu people could attain high office positions. Those suspected of treason were executed and the Han people were not allowed to marry the Qing. The Manchu also required all men to cut their hair in the "queue" style in the attached image. The Manchu resisted outside involvement, minimizing contact with envoys and not allowing Christianity within its borders.

Peace and prosperity continued under strict Manchu surveillance, however, and the arts, music, and more continued to develop.

The Qing struggled to maintain control during the Opium Wars, when its people struggled against the government due to opium restrictions. The Dynasty is weakened by natural disaster, rebellions, and a lost war with Japan.

After years of discrimination, famine, and a poor economy, revolutionaries overthrow the Qing rulers and the Republic of China is created.
