Description:
Marco Polo’s trip to China resulted in Marco staying in China under Mongol rule for 17 years. During this time, Marco focused on mercantile efforts and diplomatic missions. The Mongols took a liking to Marco due to his conversation and storytelling abilities. Marco’s story of his trip to China was preserved due to his capture as a prisoner of war on his way back to Venice. He told his story to the other prisoners, one of which was a writer who compiled them and distributed them throughout Europe. (3.1)
