"Free Huey" Campaign (sep 17, 1968 – may 15, 1970)
Description:
BPP Leader Huey P Newton is accused and convicted of the 1967 murder and kidnapping of a Oakland Police Officer. This leads to mass uproar and a "Free Huey and All Political Prisoners Campaign" that galvanized the nation and gave the BPP new publicity. In 1970 there was a retrial and the California Appellate Court reversed the conviction.
