Seven Years' War, a.k.a. The French-Indian war (jan 1, 1754 – jan 1, 1763)

Description:

Lasted nine years, not seven. Had many names: the Seven Years' war, the French and Indian War, the War of the Conquest, the Pomeranian war, the Third Silesian war, and the Third Carnatic war. This is because it was fought on multiple fronts: Colonial America, India, Canada, South America, the coast of Africa, the Phillippines, and Europe. Although the war lasted nine years, the English only officially declared war on the French in 1756. As a result, the fighting which started in North America in 1754 only became legally recorded two years later, in 1756. Many historians argue the case that the war is actually a 23-year war because it was a continuation from the Austrian War for Succession.

At the North American front, large numbers of Native Americans participated in the war, with the majority of them allying with the French. Even though the English sent British troops to fight in the war, most of the early fighting was carried out by colonial militia with the renowned George Washinton at their head.

Having claimed many seaports by the end of the war, the British became the most powerful navy in the world. The 1763 Treaty of Paris ended the war. Britain also gained control over Florida and Canada. They were victorious in North America, the Caribbean, Europe, and India.

At the time, George Washington was only 21 years old. He had to abandon Fort Necessity when 1/3 of his men were lost.
