Freedom Summer (jun 1, 1964 – aug 1, 1964)
Description:
1. Freedom summer was a major protest movement in order to try to get blacks to vote in which blacks in Mississippi were taught on how to pass literacy tests/knowledge tests in order to be able to vote.
2. Andrew Goodman , Michael Schwerner , James Chaney, many upperclass white college students
3. Mississippi
4. One major cause was that many blacks were unable to vote even though they outnumbered whites 4:1 and the felt as their voices did not matter
5. Got more blacks to vote, established Mississippi Freedom Democratic Party, and people were trialed against killing those who helped African Americans vote
