The Enlightenment (jul 29, 43 BC – oct 29, 1152)

Description:

• Also called the age of reason

• They were based a little bit of the French
revolution

• Rationalism (logic: reason as source of knowledge)

• Empirism (knowledge comes through experience)

• Criticism (critical thinking, argumentation)

• Egalitarianism (everybody is born equal)

• Deism (rejection of organized religion)


The Enlightenment produced numerous books, essays, inventions, scientific discoveries, laws, wars and revolutions.

The American and French Revolutions were directly inspired by Enlightenment ideals and respectively marked the peak of its influence and the beginning of its decline. The Enlightenment ultimately gave way to 19th-century Romanticism
