Cultural Revolution (jan 24, 1966 – aug 30, 1976)
Description:
Failures from the Great Leap Forward program made Mao lose immense amount of power and trust from the Chinese public. When Mao noticed that the system of government he built up over the past decades of his careers were turning into shambles, he quickly implemented the movement of “Cultural Revolution.” It’s goal was to preserve the Communist Party’s style of elements, and eliminate all competitions such as Capitalism. This led to massive rebellion against Mao, leading to a mass purge of senior officials and persecution of over millions of people across China, ranging from public humiliation and arbitrary imprisonment, to hard labor and even execution. The Revolution officially declared its end in 1969.
