King Philip's War (jul 29, 1675 – nov 16, 1678)

Description:

occurred after the Pequot War, in which English settlers pushed further and further into the territory of the Pequot tribe, eventually slaughtering the people. Though Puritans made an effort at conversion for the remaining Indians, it was half-hearted. To resist further encroachment, Indians banded together in a Pan-Indian alliance. Metacom, called King Philip, made this intertribal alliance and launched a series of attacks against the English villages, but the English were still able to maintain control of their territory and claimed victory. Nevertheless, King Philip’s War slowed the westward expansion of the English frontier and drastically reduced the native population.
