Tang Dynasty (jun 18, 618 – jun 1, 907)

Description:

The Tang Dynasty was founded after Sui Yangdi of the Sui Dynasty was assassinated. The Tang Dynasty is known for its use of the Grand Canal, which originated in the Sui Dynasty, a canal used to easily transport food between Northern and Southern China. This canal, along with the Equal Field System, a system designed to prevent the mass ownership of land by the rich as seen in the previous dynasty, and a merit-based bureaucracy, a bureaucracy run by those who do well on the civil service exam, allowed the Tang Dynasty to remain stable for much of its existence. As the equal field system began to fail as those who wanted to get around it found ways to do so and internal and external conflict occurred, the Tang dynasty began to fall. Like most other societies of this time period, the Tang Dynasty participated in both land and maritime trade, making considerable advancements in both. (3.1)(3.2)(3.3)
