Salem Witch Trials (feb 1, 1692 – may 1, 1693)
Description:
The Salem witch trials started when a group of girls in Salem, Massachusetts accused three women, one of them their house maid, of being witches. From then on, panic in the puritan community spread, the girls kept acting like they were possessed and accused many others, mainly women, of being witches. The trials stopped when the girls started to accuse higher officials of being witches and stronger evidence needed to be shown. Over all, more than 200 people were accused, 19 were hanged, 4 died in prison, and 1 was pressed to death.
