Nationalist Movement (may 11, 1946 – aug 31, 1957)
Description:
The Malay Nationalist Movement emerged in 1946 as a protest against the Malayan Union that deprived the Malay rulers of their sovereignty and introduced a controversial citizenship policy that would benefit a large section of Chinese and Indian residents. This nationalist movement, led by Tunku Abdul Rahman, continued to rise up until the 1950s as they sought to gain independence from the British.
