Description:
Cause: Rome's empire rose rapidly following a victory over Carthage, giving them the opportunity to extend their rule in the Mediterranean. The more powerful they became, the more area they were able to conquer.
Effect: Roman culture was widely dispersed throughout Europe, and left many legacies, the most famous perhaps being Catholicism.
