Description:
One of the largest empires in African Histor and at its height, it spanned from the Atlantic Coast to central parts of the Sahara desert. It was founded by King Sundiata in 1235. It was made up of several small Malinké Kingdoms in modern day Ghana. Mansa Musa is widely known as one of the richest men in history. Their emperor was called the “Mansa” which translates to sultan. Mansa Musa is widely regarded as the richest man in history. He was born in 1312 and died in 1337. During his time as emperor Mali flourished due to natrual resources like gold and salt. Musa was also famous for his hajj. His hajj would include a 4000 mile journey with soldiers, slaves, and heralds. With him he also brought hundreds of pounds of gold.
