Description:
Ghana was a kingdom in Africa that lasted from the 6th to the 13th century CE, located south of the Sahara desert in modern day Mauritania and Mali. With the growth of the Camel in the Trans-Sahara trade network the growth of African societies flourished. This allowed them to reach the Mediterranean sea trade also. The people of the soninke formed the Ghana empire. In 1240 CE, the kingdom collapsed when the Kumbi (capital city) was devastated and taken over by the empire of Mali.
