Description:
• Facts:
o SARS-CoV, is the infectious agent and a type of virus that causes SARS illness. The name of the disease SARS, is also known as, Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome.
• Symptoms:
o Symptoms normally appear within 3 to 5 days after exposure to the SARS virus.
o The beginning period starts with a high fever then aches, chills, diarrhea, dry coughing, and shortness of breath. These will develop over the course of a week.
o Later development can lead to pneumonia, respiratory failure, heart and live failure may occur.
• Transmission/Treatment:
o No drugs and vaccines, appear effective on SARS. But, there are some treatments for other disabilities from the initiation of SARS such as…
o -Tracheal intubation: inserting a tube into the trachea (windpipe) through the mouth or nose to keep airway open
o -Mechanical ventilation: a machine to move air in and out of lungs
o -Oxygen therapy: providing extra oxygen to the lungs
o -Airway management: clearing a blocked airway of foods, objects, fluids, etc.
o -Standing approximately 3 toward in diameter with an infected person can a put a person at risk due to the droplets. Other risks are caring for those who have SARS, kissing, hugging, having contact with bodily fluids, and sharing food/drinks utensils.
o -Also, people who are older than 60 are more prone to getting the disease.
