Meiji Restoration (jan 1, 1868 – jan 1, 1878)
Description:
Before the Meiji restoration, Japan was against trade, or even relations, with other countries. Then, came the arrival of Matthew Perry. With him, came an American naval fleet. This began a thought of nationalism in Japan. This gave more power to the people and less to the Emperor. This "revolution" led to many positive changes to Japanese policies.
