Meiji Restoration (jan 1, 1868 – jan 1, 1878)
Description:
Who: American Commodore Matthew Perry went to Japan's capital and demanded Japan to open their trading ports. Emperor Meiji lead this revolution.
What: The goal of this revolution was to westernize Japan and assure that all of their trading deals were fair. The restoration changed Japan's political and economic classes as well.
When: 1868-1878
Where: Edo, now Tokyo, Japan, is where Commodore Perry demanded trading rights between Japan and America.
Why: After Japanese citizens recognized that their trade deal with America was not very fair, they demanded political, economical, and trade related changes to be put into action.
