Miles Macdonell (jan 1, 1767 – jun 28, 1828)

Description:

Miles MacDonell (ca. 1767 – 28 June 1828) was the first governor of the Red River Colony (or, Assiniboia), a 19th-century Scottish settlement located in present-day Manitoba and North Dakota. He led the initial party of settlers to the colony in 1812.

His aggressive attitude exacerbated conflict between the colony and the North West Company, and he suffered severe emotional instability. His last years were spent in semiretirement on his farm near Osnaburgh, Upper Canada.
