Description:
a time in which oppressed Jews anxiously awaited the arrival of an “anointed one” (Messiah in Hebrew, Christos in Greek) to free them from oppression and was believed by many to be this Messiah.
Jesus’ teachings did not reflect a political agenda but rather, centered around a moral code in which people are commanded to love God and also love their neighbor. Jesus welcomed the marginalized and the oppressed; some of the earliest converts to Christianity were poor people and slaves. Jesus valued women and taught that their souls were of equal value as men’s souls.
