Mexican War (apr 25, 1846 – feb 2, 1848)
Description:
War between the United States and Mexico
Causes:
The United States' annexation of Texas, whose independence had not been recognized by the Mexican government, and disputes over the Texan border
Effects:
The United States won the war and many new territories were acquired from Mexico. The debate over the expansion of slavery was immediately revived as both abolitionist and slavery advocates sought to limit the others influence in congress.
