Description:
Series of armed conflicts and political machinations between Parliamentarians ("Roundheads") and Royalists ("Cavaliers") over, principally, the manner of England's governance.
Cause:
Disagreement over the power of the Monarchy and the rights of Parliament
Effects:
The war itself distracted attention from the colonies, leaving them to rule themselves in the absence of a stable government back in england.
