The Thermidorian Reaction (jul 28, 1794 – oct 12, 1795)

Description:

After Robespierre is executed the Reign of Terror "ends". It moved against radicalism because the war was going well abroad, and mostly everyone was tired of the state of fear that the sans-culottes had created. Well funded and middle-class figures rose to power. Imprisoned and hiding Girondists were allowed to return to the Convention. The law of 22 Prairial is retracted. The Paris Jacobin club was shut down.

Despite this, "the white terror" ensues. Executions of radicals, terrorists, commence. Many of those who were not formerly tried were attacked or murder unduly like they had done to their own former peoples. Gangs and other groups went around the streets beating up Jacobin's and murdering suspected terrorists. This process paralleled the September Massacres and the revolutionary tribunal.
