The Attack on Fort Sumter marked the start of the Civil War between the Union and the Confederacy. Lincoln tried to send provisions of food to Sumter, but South Carolina attacked and battered the fort for two days.The Attack on Fort Sumter is significant because it is the start of the Civil War, and because it united the North to fight for a common cause. Fort Sumter marked the beginning of a very dark time in American history.
