Antebellum Era (mar 19, 1836 – apr 12, 1860)

Description:

Overall this era was just small and/or major events that pushed towards the Civil War. Besides that it was a period where the United States was dividing when it was about the future of the country. The North wanted more reforms and stop slavery from expanding. Whereas the South had different ideas when it came to reforms and it definitely wanted slavery to expand. Mexican Cession was a huge part of this era because it was all new territory and the federal government allowed the people to choose if it was a free state or slave state (popular sovereignty). This led to more tensions. Political parties also started to express their opinions which led to even more division.
