Feudal Japan (Sengoku Era) (jun 18, 1400 – jun 18, 1500)

Description:

Sengoku Era - Japan was divided into hundreds of different states. The warlord of each state was called daimyo. Daimyos tried to build up their little states to survive long. They came up with regular tax collection, supporting the construction of irrigation systems and other public works, and building strong rural communities. This was the time of great technology improvement in parts such as a farming tool. Wealthy merchant class emerged during this time period. Women in the merchant class enjoyed greater freedom and rights than women in other societies. There was shogun but his power was weakened due to peasant revolts and betrayal of daimyos. This era went on for about 100 years until Oda Nobunaga united all Japan by force. (extra info: he was betrayed by his most trusted soldier. Later, his former servant, Toyotomi Hideyoshi killed the traitor and truly united Japan. He set up a clear difference between social classes and setting roles for each social classes. He is also famous for the invasion of Korea.
