Zedekiah (oct 14, 680 BC – jan 27, 647 BC)

Description:

Life of Zedekiah; Josiah was 29 when he was born, and he lived to be 33 years old.
He was king after his nephew, Jehoiachin, was deposed by Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon, and he reigned for 12 years.

His name was originally Mattaniah, but was changed by Nebuchadnezzer.

In his later years he rebelled against Babylon. Because of his rebellion Jerusalem was destroyed, the final captivity of the Jews was effected, and the Kingdom destroyed.
Zedekiah was taken captive to Babylon. He was forced to watch the death of his sons, after which his eyes were burned out. He died soon afterwards.

One of his sons, by the name of Mulek, managed to escape the siege and was led by God to the Americas. His descendents, known as Mulekites, form a portion of the Book of Mormon.
