Development of Railroads (jan 1, 1830 – jan 1, 1860)
Description:
Jus like steamboats, trains quickly became popular in transporting people and goods, since they were faster and could cover more distance.
Causes: Railroads were actually less expensive to build than canals and they could carry more and relatively more reliable than a steamboat.
Historical Impact: Made transportation of goods cheaper and encouraged settlement and farming. However, it also tended to invade political life by corrupting government officials.
