Siege of Samarra (aug 28, 1920 – aug 30, 1920)

Description:

On 28 August, the city of Samarra was attacked by tribes that declared rebellion and disobedience to the English. The heads and dignitaries of the city were designed to protect the assistant to the political governor of the city of Major Berry. He was accompanied by 13 British soldiers with a lieutenant and a number of Indian drivers who arrived recently from the city Kirkuk [139] . After they asked for protection from the rebellious clans. The rebellious tribes were unable to break into the city for the durability of its walls. [140]. Then, the rebellious tribes besieged the city. There were negotiations between the rebellious tribes and between the heads and dignitaries of the city of Samarra. On August 30, the British managed to lift the siege on the city when they arrived at the Samarra station from Sharqat. A British detachment of 120 soldiers led by Colonel Makosland and then Two English planes dropped bombs on the rebellious tribes around the city and the siege was lifted [141] .
