-National Guard defected to side of revolutionaries
-with loss of military support, Louis Philippe abdicated
-revolutionaries formed a provisional government:
-10-man executive branch
-universal male suffrage
-abolition of slavery and death penalty
-limited workday
-wrote constitution for France's 2nd Republic
