Reconstruction of the United States as a whole began on January of 1877
The Reconstruction Era occured after the Union victory of the Civil War and was meant to rebuild the South; all in order to hold the nation together despite two different plans from two different presidents.
The cause of Reconstruction was an attempt of the United States government to help rebuild the damaged South to change and help bring them back into the Union.
This is historically important because it demonstrated that the federal government could get involved with civil rights and helped ratify the 13t,14th, and 15th amendments in the southern states. As well ass, demonstrate that the nation is capable of sustaining themselves after a conflict like this.
