Free Soil Movement 1848 (jul 2, 1848 – dec 14, 1848)
Its a party and its main purpose was to oppose the expansion of slavery into the western territories, arguing that free men on free soil constituted a morally and economically superior system to slavery. It created tension between the North and South over the issue of the expansion of slavery and helped drive the two sections apart.
